Vision Therapy
Let’s face it. The academic expectations for students are getting more demanding everyday, and every parent wants their child to succeed. But what if your child has a reading problem, has trouble concentrating or comprehending reading material, reverses words or letters, or works slowly and is easily distracted? All of these problems might be related to your child’s inability to converge his or her eyes properly. Convergence Insufficiency is a condition in which your eyes do not turn inward properly while focusing at a nearby object. This makes your eyes unable to achieve binocular vision, thus leading to blurred and/or double vision, which can cause headaches, itchy and watery eyes, a short attention span, loss of comprehension, trouble reading, etc. This condition can be treated with Vision Therapy.
What is Vision Therapy?
Did you know 80% of everything a child learns is acquired through his or her visual system?
At CVP, we test your child for certain deficiencies and train them to improve their visual skills.
Accommodation – the student’s ability to quickly focus from an object far away (chalkboard, etc.) to an object close to them like a text book or test paper.
Convergence (Eye-teaming) – forces the eyes to work together, increasing comprehension, reading ability, and other deficiencies that come with Convergence Insufficiency.
Focus and Concentration – the ability to maintain visual attention on a specific task.
Oculomotor (Eye Movement) Skills – There are two types of eye movements: Pursuits (tracking) in which we follow a moving object, and saccades, in which we make quick directed movements. Reading is a saccadic movement, and with training, reading speed can be improved.
Speed of Recognition – the student will be able to recognize and recall words, phrases, equations, or anything else that requires similar abilities. The fact is that a program of Vision Therapy will help any student who wishes to improve their academic skills, whether they make straight A’s or have grades that span across the report card spectrum.
